News / A push into the right direction
« Last post by Nanako on February 18, 2019, 07:42:53 PM »
The break between Uldir and Dazar'alor was a welcome respite for what remained of our raid team.  With help from a few new members and a bit more renewed focus, we pushed into Heoric Dazar'alor after we cleared the raid in normal mode.  We manged to take down the first interesting fight for the alliance side (2nd boss), Jadefire Masters.

The week after, we quickly repeated the kill on Jadefire Masters and managed to solidly bring down Grong.

We finished out the shortened week to get a first kill on Opulence as well.

These kills bring the Old Guard to 4/9 in Heroic Dazar'alor.

News / A bit late...

So Heroic Uldir was a thing the Old Guard tackled but it was not without its problems for the guild.  A combination of fatigue, sluggishness, non-interest and just plain burnout made it a rough for our raids in a disappointing start to a new expansion.  We still stuck with it, reorganizing our raid team and resetting expectations to get the content down on heroic while it was relevant but it did come at a bit of a cost...

News / Our survival was never in fate's hands
« Last post by Nanako on January 04, 2018, 01:34:23 PM »
At last, the Old Guard approached the Seat of the Pantheon to encounter the broken and shattered soul of Argus the Unmaker.  Enslaved by Sargeras to be used to endlessly regenerate the Burning Legion, this had to be brought to an end.  Argus wasn't necessary evil but the only release possible from his suffering would have to be through his death.

With the Pantheon freed and Sargeras ripped from Azeroth, we bid farewell to Illidan Stormrage and Argus to travel back home.  Surely the factions of Azeroth will grow from this war and stay united to repair the damage wrought by the Legion...

The defeat of Argus the Unmaker closes out the tale of Heroic Antorus, The Burning Throne 11/11 and Legion.  Anyone up for mythics?

News / Maybe duct tape was used
« Last post by Nanako on January 03, 2018, 12:39:59 PM »
Being chopped in half is merely an impediment nowadays, as our team discovered when we met up with a patched up Aggramar in the chamber of the World Soul.  The dark titan was guarding something Sargeras didn't want us to prying into, something Aggramar was willing to beat us down with his burning blade Taeshalach.  There was no reasoning with him, his mind broken long ago.  We had to go through him.

The fight was an exercise in control and patience.  The numbers are still needed but discipline is a must.  It was our final new kill of 2017.

Defeating Aggramar brought the Old Guard to 10/11 in Heroic Antorus, The Burning Throne.  Just one more left before the ending credits...

News / RNG at its finest
« Last post by Nanako on January 03, 2018, 11:32:33 AM »
Continuing out story from several weeks ago, our team climbed out of the Chamber of Anguish only to enter the Temple of Anguish to encounter Sargeras most fanatical followers, the Coven of Shivarra.  Their specialization is about twisting minds, particularly the fallen titans.  Turns out they can twist the minds of raid teams on heroic mode as well.  Between insta-kill abilities, hard hitting Storm of Darkness overlapping with rng mechanics and spectral armies it did at some points make some of our members open to the idea of joining the Legion instead.  Nonetheless, our will did not break and we brought the sisters down.

Knocking out the Coven of Shivarra the help free the titans brought the Old Guard to 9/11 in Heroic Antorus, The Burning Throne.  Enough of the flunkies, it is time for the real ass kicking..!

News / The Undercity was merely a setback!
« Last post by Nanako on January 03, 2018, 11:04:09 AM »
Several weeks ago, the Old Guard teleported to the actual, really it is - Burning Throne and charged across a long walkway to the central chamber (blowing up a few of ourselves along the way).  While admiring the sights, we sorta fell down a shaft into the Chamber of Anguish to encounter VarimathrasVarimathras wasn't looking so well, being tortured by the Coven of Shivarra for his failure on delivering the Undercity to the Legion several expansions ago.  Unlike Sylvanas, we chose not to spare his life and to inflict Misery twice-fold on him.

Dispatching Varimathras brought the Old Guard to 8/11 in Heroic Antorus, The Burning Throne.  Now to find a way out of this pit...

News / Killing spree!
« Last post by Nanako on December 18, 2017, 07:23:02 PM »
The past week, the Old Guard made sure to to eat their Wheaties, keep stim packs on hand and grab a star.  These power-ups lead to a memorable killing spree through Antorus lower ranks.

Our first set of victims (we don't count Garothi) were the Antoran High Command.  They put up some early resistance but were ultimately shown to be terrible commanders.  The only real challenge was the elevator boss leading into their room which proved to be the most deadly weapon in their arsenal.  Our raid team gladly relinquished them of their pods and commandeered their loot.

Next on the docket were the Felhounds of Sargeras.  These puppies decided to try to use our tanks as squeaky toys.  Having to listen to a gnome and pally "squeak" didn't sit well with many of our raiders (especially the healers..!)  After a few pulls we quickly taught the temperamental puppies how to roll over and stay dead.

After the pet training session, we decided to wander over to Portal Keeper Hasabel's room to see if there was a faster way to get around the dungeon. After a few rounds of dancing with her, we finally figured out how to operate the portals and proceeded to turn them against her.

Unfortunately, despite our new mastery of portals, we still couldn't find a faster way to get around Antorus. We did however discover the essence of Eonar the Life-Binder in a nearby room.  Our team decided to be courteous to Eonar by helping her kill the adds attempting to swarm her domain.  We dug in deep to our pool of experience grinding away in tower defense games for this task to dispatch her assailants!

After freeing Eonar, we finally found a portal to go deeper into Antorus. The portal deposited us at the end of a long bridge and like most foul bridges, there was a bridge troll named Imonar the Soulhunter guarding it.  He demanded we pay for passage with our lives.  Our preference is to continue living so we decided to send him the bill collect for our passage.  The Soulhunter become the hunted and we left him behind in a crumpled mess.

Never a group to rest (too often) on our own laurels, we decided that ought to do something about that demon sitting at the end of the bridge, Kin'garoth. We learned how to effectively shut down his constructs while dodging beams and rolling bombs of death, adding one more notch on the artifacts for the week.  Time to get off this crumbling bridge and to the throne itself!

This killing spree through Heroic Antorus, The Burning Throne, brings the Old Guard to 7/11.  What lays further within?  Will the tormented world soul be saved?  All these questions will have to be answered as we delve deeper into the heart of Argus itself.

News / Garothi Worldbroken
« Last post by Nanako on November 29, 2017, 06:00:49 AM »
Christmas is right around the corner and within minutes of the Old Guard deciding to open our new raid present a bit early.  We already had an accident and one shot the first toy in the instance, leaving it a broken mess in the pit below. Unfortunately, Blizzard has a no-returns policy on broken toys so we will just have to go find some new presents in the raid to play a bit too rough with.

This opening salvo sets a strong pace and brings us to 1/11 in Heroic Antorus, The Burning Throne.

News / Posing naked under the shadow of Argus...
« Last post by Nanako on September 19, 2017, 06:57:48 PM »
A couple weeks ago, the Old Guard finally managed to down Heroic Kil'jaeden pre-nerf, pre-crucible, pre-Irma, pre-something-else so huzzah for the win.  A bit of an over-tuned fight for heroic mode where a single mistake or bad ability timing sinks an entire attempt quickly and mercilessly.  An impeding Hurricane Irma forced the evacuation for some of that week which caused a few to miss out but the team will make sure their time put into the fight will be rewarded with a kill during the wait for Antorus, the Burning Throne to start up.

At least we still know how to properly pose for a raid kill picture.

I am almost concerned of what the next kill picture will look like....

This kill closes out Heroic Tomb of Sargeras at 9/9.  Not a bad raid instance overall with some really fun fights.

Time to speculate on when the next raid content drops...
